Course Description
PREREQUISITES:
None, though some familiarity with U.S. History in the period would help (a good high school-level course should be sufficient for that purpose.) Also, it is important to be able to read and write effectively in standard English and to learn through reading.

OBJECTIVES:
It is the purpose of this course to provide you with the opportunity to investigate the history of South Carolina since the Civil War (or, if you accept Walter Edgar's categories, since the end of the Civil War Part One). You will do this through reading, listening, discussion, argument, research, and writing. By the end of the course, you should be able to discourse in informed fashion about the major developments and issues that went into the shaping of South Carolina.
