Course Description
PREREQUISITES:
None, though some familiarity with U.S. History in the period would help (a good high school-level course should be sufficient for that purpose.) Also, it is important to be able to read and write effectively in standard English and to learn through reading.

OBJECTIVES:
It is the purpose of this course to provide you with the opportunity to investigate the history of South Carolina through the end of the Civil War. You will do this through reading, listening, discussion, argument, research, and writing. By the end of the course, you should be able to discourse in informed fashion about the major developments and issues that went into the shaping of South Carolina.
