SHELDON
HANFT TRAVEL AWARD
for Established
Scholars in British Studies

SOUTHERN
CONFERENCE ON BRITISH STUDIES
The Southern Conference on British Studies is pleased to solicit
applications for the Sheldon Hanft Travel Award for 2010 from scholars in
British Studies. The award carries a
grant of $1,000 and commemorates the work of Professor Sheldon Hanft of
Appalachian State University with the Carolinas Symposium on British Studies,
which became conjoined with the SCBS in 2002.
It is made each year on a competitive basis to support research in
British Studies (including the history and culture of the Empire and
Commonwealth as well as of the
Since the purpose of a Hanft Travel Award is to assist in
defraying the cost of research travel, the award may not be applied to other
expenses. Travel funded by the awards
may be international or within the United States or another country so long as
it furthers research in some aspect of British Studies. Recipients will be reimbursed after
completion of their travel and presentation of documented travel expenditures
to the SCBS Secretary-Treasurer.
Eligibility for established scholars applying for the
Hanft Travel Award requires current membership in the SCBS, and applications for
the 2010 award must be submitted no later than
