Director OSP
Mac McLeod Jr.

Being the Director of OSP is a very rewarding and challenging job for me. I believe the greatest thing one can do for his fellow man is to help that person grow both intellectually and culturally. The purpose of the Opportunity Scholars Program is to assist students in both of these areas.

My background is diverse and hopefully this diversity adds to my ability to help students here at USC Sumter. I grew up on a dairy farm near Pinewood, South Carolina and continue to reside in the area. My wife Joanie and I, and our three children, live on our own farm where I am trying to learn to propagate plants. I graduated from Furman High School and went on to Tulane University, then proceeded to USC Columbia to get my MBA. I served ten years in the South Carolina General Assembly.  I have taught math and business at Furman High School, Central Carolina Technical College, USC Sumter and was Program Director for a JTPA program and Job Developer for another JTPA program.

I am very fortunate to have a great OSP staff. We all work very hard to help our students achieve their goals. We have an open-door policy (both ways) at OSP. Suggestions are welcome and we are willing to listen to your problems. If you have not applied to be a participant in OSP, you must have a good reason - I would really like to hear it. Come by and visit us - if you are one of ours, we want to see you very often!
