OSP EDUCATIONAL SKILLS SPECIALIST - ENGLISH & WRITING

MARY WAYNE JAMES

I am excited to be the newest member of the USC Opportunity Scholars program team and I consider it a privilege to get to know and assist students on the USC Sumter campus.
I have spent most of my life in the Sumter community and received my high school diploma from Edmunds High School (before it became Sumter High). After graduating from Winthrop College, with a major in biology and a minor in English, I pursued a Master’s degree from Clemson University (Personnel Services) and have earned a specialist’s certificate (30 + hours of graduate credit) mostly from USC.
I have been a part of the Sumter educational scene for 31 ½ years and have taught science and English in the schools of Sumter. Most recently, I was the Director of Guidance for the two high schools in Sumter School District Two. I bring to this job many years of interacting with students and parents from a teaching and counseling standpoint.
My recent retirement as a full-time educator allows me to pursue some of my varied interests. These include “ebaying”, boating, a terrible golf game and spending time with my family. My family consists of my husband, two grown daughters, two cats, two dogs and lots of pet fur.
Please come by, introduce yourself, and let me know how school is going for you. I look forward to working with you and assisting you with your questions about English and writing.
