I am very excited about being the new Assistant for the Opportunity
Scholars Program here on the USC Sumter Campus. It will be very hard
to follow Jane Thompson in this position. I hope that I will be able
to offer some new insights from my own experiences. My goal is to
help the program - that Jane worked so hard to establish - continue to
reach even higher levels of success. I love working with the students,
faculty and staff and I am thrilled to be back on the USC Sumter campus.
Sumter is where I grew up and my immediate family remains in this area.
I graduated from USC Sumter in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in
Business Administration.
All of my working experience has been in the retail industry.
In 1985, after graduation, my employer, Brooks Fashions, transferred me
to Savannah, Georgia where I opened and managed a new retail store.
I have also lived in Jacksonville and Daytona Beach, Florida. While
living in these areas, I was a Senior Merchandising Manager for the J.C.
Penney Co. I worked for them for twelve years. In 1997, I opened
my own retail clothing boutique in the Downtown Historical Area of Savannah
and ran “Mom & Me” for almost three years.
In October of 2000, my husband’s company, Sensormatic, moved
Eric and me back to Sumter. Eric installs security systems all over
the eastern half of the state. We are currently living in a family vacation
home on the lake between Summerton and Manning, S.C.
I look forward to helping OSP students achieve their goals!
