*All military service credit processing and documentation are handled by the USC Sumter Office of Admissions Services.

The University of South Carolina policy states that a maximum of 30 semester hours of credit by correspondence and credit awarded for educational experiences in the military may be applied toward meeting the requirements for a baccalaureate degree (15 for associate degrees). The 30 semester hours of credit which may be awarded for educational experiences in the military should be in accordance with recommendations published by the American Council on Education (ACE) and be consistent with University policy on the transfer of credit (no vocational level credit). Credit will be applied to a degree program upon the approval of the dean of the college from which the degree is to be awarded.

Each campus is responsible for having military credits posted to a student's record. The USC Columbia Admissions Office will provide assistance, if needed. If an appropriate authority at a four-year campus makes an exception to this policy, a comment will be posted to the student's internal transcript that states that the credit is for use only for degrees awarded through that campus.

The Office of Admissions Services at USC Sumter is responsible for collecting documentation regarding a student's military service credit. Copies of all the documentation are given to the Office of Records and Registration after a student has registered for classes. The copies will need to be sent for re-evaluation in the event the student changes his/her major. The copies are kept in the Transfer Credit Summary drawer.
