One intent of this policy is to protect the health and well being of USC Sumter students, faculty, and staff.
Another intent is to insure the humane treatment of stray animals.
No animals except laboratory animals, Seeing Eye Dogs, and pet fish may be housed or maintained on the university grounds, facilities, or buildings. Employees of the university are not permitted to house pets on campus, except fish housed in an aquarium. Location of such fish is restricted to the individual's immediate office.
In the event that a domestic stray animal is found on the USC Sumter campus, the animal is not to be approached, handled, or fed by university employees or students. When sighted, stray animals should be reported immediately to the Office of the Assistant Dean for Administrative and Financial Services at extension 3291 during working hours. After hours and on weekends, calls should be placed to the City of Sumter Animal Control Office at (803) 775-3876.
Should any animal (wild or domestic stray) appear to be a threat, or in discomfort, the reporting employee or student should contact emergency personnel by dialing 9-911, then contact the Office of the Assistant Dean for Administrative and Financial Services at extension 3291 immediately thereafter.
Should the animal appear to be in normal health and not threatening, the Office of the Assistant Dean for Administrative and Financial Services will see to it that the animal is removed in a timely and humane manner by contacting the City of Sumter Animal Control Office.
