SUBJECT: Ethics Committee

 The Ethics Committee is a standing committee of the University of South Carolina at Sumter and consists of no less than (5) faculty members. The members of this committee are appointed in August by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and serve for a 12-month period. The committee is responsible to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.

The Ethics Committee will elect a chair and vice-chair from its membership each year. Each year in September the committee chair will report on the committee's membership and officers to [position title] on the Columbia campus. The committee will meet at least once a year or as needed, and will distribute minutes of its meetings to the membership as well as to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Dean of the University and [position title] on the Columbia campus.

The Ethics Committee should approve any research which is affiliated with the University of South Carolina at Sumter and which uses live human/animal subjects. However, any data collected from a particular class for pedagogical reasons and used solely for or by that class is excluded from review by the Ethics Committee.
