Business Simulation Team finishes #1 in international contest.
USC Sumter Dean C. Leslie Carpenter has announced that the campus’ student-based Business Simulation
Team, under the guidance of Dr. Christine Borycki, associate professor of management, took first place
among 50 competitors from universities around the world in the Global View International Business
Simulation.
“Competitors came from institutions such as Ecole des Practiciens de Commerce International in
France, The Amsterdam School of Business in the Netherlands and California State University Stanislaus’
MBA program here in the United States,” stated Kristi Schlais, executive director of Association Global
View, in a congratulatory letter.
The (USC Sumter) team deserves further recognition in that it was part of the innovative Virtual
Team Research Project conducted by Dr. Christine Borycki at your university,” Schlais continued. “In
this project, Dr. Borycki and colleagues from other collaborating universities placed students on
internationally distributed teams, such that the management and operations of their (virtual)
firm within the competition was conducted through online meetings. This then presented additional
challenges not faced by other competing firms.”
The team that took first place in the simulation was composed of students from USC Sumter and The
University of Texas Pan American (UTPA). Team members included Reginald Knight, Michael Lyon, Shirin
Oveyssi and Sergio Roitberg. The team’s instructors were Dr. Christine Borycki of USC Sumter and Dr.
Jane LeMaster from UTPA.
In a congratulatory letter sent to Dr. Borycki and the two USC Sumter team members, Reginald T.
Knight and Michael M. Lyon, both of Sumter, Dean Carpenter wrote: “On behalf of everyone at USC
Sumter, please accept my sincerest congratulations on this outstanding achievement. Not only have
you brought honor to yourself, but to USC Sumter. Please know that we are very proud of you.”
