“The Testimony of the Fourth Evangelist to the Johannine Community: We Know his Witness is True.”
by USC Sumter Associate Professor of Business Administration, Dr. Armand J. “Joe” Gagne, has just been
published. Waldenbooks, located at the Sumter Mall, is hosting a book signing by Gagne on Saturday,
December 18 from 1-4 p.m.
Gagne’s fascination with the Bible’s fourth book of the New Testament, the Gospel of John, is not a
new subject for him. The author has said, “Just over forty-eight years ago while I was serving in the
U.S. Navy, I began a vivid encounter with the Gospel of John that immediately led to an academic pursuit
to acquire all there was to know about this very fascinating gospel on the life of Jesus Christ.” From
this encounter, emerged Gagne’s first book, his doctoral thesis published in 1996, titled, “The
Contribution and Use of Judaism in the Formulation of the Fourth Gospel.” In Gagne’s newly published
book he examines the origin and seeks to observe the Fourth Gospel as an authentic account of Jesus
as seen through the eyes of an early disciple.
The book, along with another textbook on the same subject, will be used during USC Sumter’s spring
semester classes. Professor Gagne, a member of the Society of Biblical Literature, and presenter of
two papers at the Society’s International Conference brings over forty-four years of research in
Johannine Literature to the classroom. His degrees have been received with work from the University
of Maryland, the University of South Carolina and the Christian Bible University.
While the book will be used for academic pursuits at USC Sumter, Gagne also states that he hopes to
have his book available on the internet for “anyone who is a Christian to be able to look at it and
see what’s there.”
Please visit with Dr. Gagne on December 18 at the book signing. You may also locate his book at
the USC Sumter book store and through Trafford
Publishing‘s Web Bookstore.
