Computer Use Policy

*ALL USERS MUST PRESENT ID’S AT THE INFORMATION DESK TO BE SCANNED. THEN PLEASE DISPLAY YOUR ID CARD IN THE HOLDERS ON TOP OF THE MONITORS.

*ALL USERS MUST ADHERE TO THE UNIVERSITY of S.C. AND laws as defined in the S.C. Code of Laws. (See 5 & 6 below).

The Library Center Computer Lab and Open Computer Lab computers (Room 205)

PLEASE NOTE THAT COMPUTERS IN THESE LABS ARE ONLY FOR USC STUDENT AND FACULTY USE!

These labs serve as access points for databases, which assist USC faculty and students in library research and class assignments. Individuals without appropriate identification WILL NOT BE allowed to use the Library Center or Computer Lab (Room 205) Computers.

Librarians also use these computers for library instruction to groups and individual patrons. These uses in the Main Library have priority over any other use by patrons.

Public patrons, including patrons under the age of 18 years must use the computers in the front of the library near the circulation/reference desk that are labeled as public access computers. Individuals using these computers must first stop at the information desk and present their Sumter County Library Card along with a picture ID, CCTC card with a picture ID and USC barcode, High School ID with USC barcode, or other form of identification, along with the Computer Use Card received at the information desk in the card holders on top of the monitors. A time limit may be imposed on users if others are waiting to use the machines. There is NO printing available for public use computers.

Students are encouraged to consult the Anderson Library’s brochure on plagiarism as well as other brochures that cover specific topics, databases and resources. Misuse of library computers can result in disciplinary or legal proceedings.

PLEASE NOTE THAT LIBRARY USERS ALSO ARE EXPECTED TO ABIDE BY THE ANDERSON LIBRARY BUILDING USE POLICY.

A PRINTED COPY OF THIS FLYER IS AVAILABLE AT THE CIRCULATION DESK.

1. Librarians reserve the right to limit an individual student's use of Library Center and Open Computer Lab (Room 205) Computers if others are waiting to access resources. Patrons are limited to the use of one computer at a time.

2. The use of E-mail at library computers must be related to library research and class assignments. The computers in the Open Computer Lab (Room 205) are available to USC students for word processing, E-mail, and other Internet applications.

3. ALL Library and Open Computer Lab (Room 205) Computers may not be used for unlawful communications including threats of violence, obscenity, child pornography and harassing communications as defined by United States and South Carolina laws.

4. Users MAY NOT display on any library or open computer lab (Room 205) computers, web sites that are in violation of Article 3 of Chapter 15 of Title 16 of the South Carolina Code of Laws, i.e. obscene or child pornography web sites. should you need to access materials in this category for legitimate research, you may contact the Library administration for an appropriate arrangement.

5. Downloading software from the Internet onto ANY library or open computer lab (Room 205) computers, altering settings or files, and tampering with computer security in any way is strictly prohibited and may result in disciplinary or legal proceedings.

6. Conducting for-profit business at Library Center and Open Computer Lab (Room 205) Computers is prohibited, nor may computers be used for commercial transactions.

7. Users desiring to download data are responsible for supplying their own computer disks.

8. Food and drink (including water bottles) are strictly prohibited in the Library Center Computers area as well as in the Open Computer Lab (Room 205) area.

10. Computers are available for children in the designated children’s services area in the Library. CHILDREN ARE PROHIBITED in the Library Center Computer area AND in the Open Computer Lab (Room 205).
