Sandhill: A Journal of Arts and Letters - Submission Guidelines
Who we are: Sandhill: A Journal of Arts and Letters is the literary journal of USC Sumter. It accepts work by USC Sumter students exclusively. Sandhill is published annually in May. Authors and artists are notified of acceptance in 3 months, but may be longer. Payment for publication is two contributor's copies. Rights revert to author upon publication.
What we publish: All work must be previously unpublished. We look for poems, stories, and nonfiction (academic and personal) that are well-crafted, have an intelligent sense of form and language, and assume a degree of responsibility. We welcome graphic artwork. We also welcome interviews with established writers and artists relevant to the Sumter area. We do not accept racially offensive or overtly pornographic material.
Stories: Send 1-2 stories, up to 10 double-spaced, NUMBERED pages each.
Poems: Send 3-6 poems.
Nonfiction: Send 1-2 essays, up to 10 double-spaced pages each.
Graphic Arts: Paintings, photographs, comics, and drawings are welcome. In lieu of originals, please send digital images of work. Send up to five pieces. Visual works must be publishable in black and white.
How to submit: All submissions MUST include the following contact information: name, permanent mailing address, phone number, and email address. We cannot respond to submissions otherwise.
Multiple submissions may be submitted under the same cover letter/email. That is to say,if you would like to send a poetry, essay, and fiction submission, they may arrive with the same cover letter/email.
There is no limit to the submissions you send. In other words, you can submit multiple submissions at any time in both the fall and spring semesters.
The cover letter must contain the following: contact information (as stated above), the title or titles of the work submitted, and a SHORT (50 words or less) bio. Explanations of manuscript meaning, theme, or technique are not necessary.
No handwritten, faxed, or poorly copied/printed manuscripts will be considered.
Where to submit: You can submit to Sandhill two ways.

. Poetry or prose should be attached as a Microsoft Word attachment only. Artwork should be sent in JPEG format. Work sent via email in any other format will not be read.
