RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION COMMITTEE CHARTER

PURPOSES:

The Recruitment and Retention Committee (RRC) serves as an advisory committee to the Dean of the University, the assistant and associate deans, the Director of Admissions Services, and the Director of the Advisement and Counseling Center regarding student recruitment and retention matters in general.

In a consultative capacity, the RRC assists in the development and implementation of plans, strategies, programs, and activities that support, facilitate, and otherwise optimize the recruitment and retention of students at USC Sumter. The committee will develop Recruitment and Retention Plans for USC Sumter; annually assess the implementation, progress, and effectiveness of these plans; periodically make necessary updates and revisions to the plans; and ensure that the Dean of the University is well and regularly advised about the Recruitment and Retention Plans. The RRC will engage in regular communication and consultation with the Marketing and Public Relations Committee on matters of mutual interest and concern.

As a Standing Institutional Committee, the sponsor of the Recruitment and Retention Committee is the Dean of the University. The empowerment limits of the RRC are to review and recommend to the appropriate administrators and other institutional committees and organizations, and to advise the Dean of the University.
 

MEMBERSHIP (9):

 

  • Associate Dean for Student Affairs (ex officio member and Chair)

  • Director of Admissions Services (ex officio member)

  • Director of the Advisement and Counseling Center (ex officio member)

  • Faculty Members (two; recommended by the Faculty Organization Chair to overlapping two-year terms)

  • Staff Members (two; recommended by the Staff Organization President to overlapping two-year terms)

  • Students (two; recommended by the Student Government Association President to overlapping two-year terms)



PROCEDURES:

The committee will meet as necessary, but at least quarterly to evaluate recruitment, admissions, and retention data, reports, and strategies, and to provide advice and recommendations as appropriate. All members will have voting privileges. Other than the ex officio Chair, officers will be elected annually from among the members of the committee. Replacements for unanticipated vacancies on the committee will be recommended to the Dean as soon as reasonably possible by the responsible organization or individual, and will be for the duration of the unexpired term of the vacant position. Except for ex officio members, all members of the committee serve voluntarily and at the pleasure of the Dean. The committee will publish minutes of meetings, to be distributed to all faculty, staff, and student organizations, and other members of the campus community as requested or needed.

This document supersedes all previous charters, in whole or in part, for the Recruitment and Retention Committee, or its predecessor, the Retention Committee, including those dated January 10, 1995, July 30, 1996, July 23, 1997, March 26, 2001, July 23, 2002, and March 14, 2006.
