Mary Wayne James,
OSP Education Skills Specialist
Opportunity Scholars Program
As a member of the USC Opportunity Scholars program team, I consider it a privilege to get to know and assist students on the USC Sumter campus.
I have spent most of my life in the Sumter community and received my high school diploma from Edmunds High School (before it became Sumter High). After graduating from Winthrop College, with a major in biology and a minor in English, I pursued a Master’s degree from Clemson University (Personnel Services) and have earned a specialist’s certificate (30 + hours of graduate credit) mostly from USC.
As a part of the Sumter educational scene for 31 ½ years I taught science and English in the schools of Sumter. Before retiring in 2002, I was the Director of Guidance for the two high schools in Sumter School District Two. I bring to this job many years of interacting with students and parents from a teaching and counseling standpoint.
My retirement as a full-time educator allows me to pursue some of my varied interests. These include Clemson football, boating, a weekly golf game, working with my church and spending time with my family. My family consists of my husband, two grown daughters, two cats, two dogs and triplet grandchildren.
Please come by, introduce yourself, and let me know how school is going for you. I look forward to working with you and assisting you.
