Instructor of Sociology
Kerry McLoughlin received a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Criminology at Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida in 1997. She received her Master’s degree in Sociology from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC in 1999. Her master’s thesis focused on maternal age at birth and early childhood educational outcomes.
In regards to her teaching experience, McLoughlin was a full-time Instructor of Sociology at Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh, NC from 2006-2009, where she volunteered with the Honors Program. She has also taught part-time at Midlands Technical College in Columbia, SC and USC main campus. Courses she teaches include: Introductory Sociology, Sociology of the Family, Social Problems, and Race, Class, Gender and Sexuality.
Besides teaching Sociology, McLoughlin has also worked in various sectors of public health, including substance abuse prevention, reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, and youth empowerment to prevent tobacco use. Most recently, she was the Assistant Project Coordinator for Community Action for a Safer Tomorrow (CAST) at the SC Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services (DAODAS) in Columbia, SC from 2009 - 2011. CAST is a federally-funded, 5-year, 10 million dollar project focused on reducing underage drinking and DUI-related traffic crashes in South Carolina.
