Carolina Arias,

Instructor of Spanish

Raised in Guadalajara, Jalisco, México, Carolina Arias has lived in the USA since 1991. Carolina earned her associate's degree in Elementary Education from South Texas College. Later, she obtained both her bachelor’s degree in Spanish as well as her master’s degree in Spanish-Hispanic Literature from USC Columbia.  Carolina's thesis, "A Look at Exile through the eyes of Francisco Ayala and Max Aub" received a nomination for an Outstanding Thesis Award from USC. In addition, a strong believer of the technological world, she has also been certified for Online Instruction and is consistently engaged in technological training. 

 

Prior to coming to USC Sumter, Carolina worked in the private school sector and at UTPA in Texas, at USC Columbia, Midlands Technical College, and Columbia College.  Her classes included beginning, elementary, basic proficiency Spanish and beginning Hispanic Literature.  Currently, Carolina is pursuing a Women's and Gender Studies Graduate Certificate in conjunction with a PhD in Spanish ~Spanish and Latin-American literary and cultural studies~ where she can continue her research on Max Aub (1903-1972), and other Mexican interests in literature.

 

Carolina’s teaching responsibilities at our Sumter campus include, but are not limited to:

 

SPAN 109 Beginning Spanish I ~Introduction to grammar and practical vocabulary necessary for fundamental communication skills.

 

SPAN 110 Beginning Spanish II~ Continuation of grammar and practical vocabulary necessary for fundamental communication skills.

 

SPAN 121 Elementary Spanish~ Grammar and vocabulary necessary for fundamental communication skills will be covered. This course assumes prior experience in Spanish.

 

Spanish 122 Basic Proficiency in Spanish~ Practice and further development of essential listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills will be covered.
