Austin Jenkins is a native on nearby Camden, SC.  He received a BS in Biology Education from The Citadel and went on to Clemson University where he obtained an MS in Entomology and PhD in Forest Resources (focused on botany and herpetology).  Given his general interests in all things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small, he is best described as a Naturalist.

After graduating from Clemson University he became naturalist and natural resources manager of Clemson University’s Sandhill Research and Education Center in Columbia, SC.  He then went on to become the first Executive Director and Naturalist of Katawba Valley Land Trust, a nonprofit conservation organization in the Piedmont of South Carolina.  During his two year tenure, the land trust doubled its membership, initiated a Master Naturalist Program, and closed on over 1000 acres of conservation property.  During this time Jenkins was also the recipient of a National Audubon Society TogetherGreen Fellowship.

At USC Sumter, Jenkins teaches Environmental Biology, Intro to Environmental Science, and General Biology.  His goal is to make certain that his students gain and understanding and appreciation for the natural world.
