This is a week long afternoon camp for students ages 9-14!

Have you ever thought about becoming a lawyer? How about a judge? In Mock Trial, participants will explore our court system from the inside, acting as lawyers, judges, witnesses, and jurors as they try their own court cases. It’s a great opportunity to have fun while building valuable skills, including public speaking, logic and reasoning, and reading and writing. Come join us this summer for Mock Trial!

Dr. Damien Picariello is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of South Carolina Sumter. He received his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. He enjoys teaching broadly within political science, and hopes to provide students with an “education for citizenship.” His research interests focus on ancient and early modern political thought, as well as literature, film, and politics.




Writing Camp (8:00 AM)

This is a week long morning camp for students ages 9-14!

Do you like to tell stories? Do you find yourself running away with your imagination? Well, Write On! We do too! In our classes, students will have the opportunity to participate in fun, interactive and independent writing exercises that explore the techniques of mystery writing, creative fiction, realistic narrative fiction, and non-fiction. Students learn tips for getting started, how to “reel the reader in,” and how to uses of the five senses to unlock the power of descriptive writing. Register early as these seats fill quickly!

Leah Kiernan has 15 years of experience teaching Literature and Writing in both public and private schools and is currently employed as the ELA middle school teacher at St. Anne & St. Jude Catholic School. Kiernan has taught several adult writing classes for Continuing Education at USC, Sumter. She has also worked as a writer for The Item newspaper. Kiernan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Education from Columbia College.
