A new member of the English Department at USC Sumter, James Borton holds a B.A. from the University of Maryland in College Park and a M.A. in American Studies with a concentration in modern American Literature from the University of Maryland. He's also a past National Endowment Fellow at Yale University.
A career journalist, Borton has reported regularly on China and Southeast Asia for numerous media, including The Washington Times, Asia Times, and completed international projects for Foreign Affairs. He's a published author, Venture Japan (Probus 1992) and is engaged in online reporting and maintains a blog at ChinaVentureNews.
He presently teaches English 101 and 102 and is serving as a media advisor for the launch of the new USC Sumter student newspaper. When not teaching, he can be found sailing off Hilton Head Island on his vintage wooden sailboat, "Badjao."
