Bergen, who retired from the University of South Carolina as a professor, taught in Jordan as a Fulbright scholar after retirement in 2006. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English, a Master of Science Degree in Sociology, a Master of Education Degree and a PhD in Philosophy.
