The Fire Ants Baseball Team announces Homerun Derby Winners. The Derby winners for 2008 are Rachel Rush, Kim Rufus, and Thres Bennett.
The Homerun Derby was the spring fund raiser for the USC Sumter baseball program. It raised nearly $7,000. Thanks for your support.
2008 NJCAA Rawlings GOLD GLOVE AWARD Winners
The Rawlings Gold Glove AwardŽ is the benchmark of excellence and performance in the field for major leaguers. However, beginning in 2007 the award now also symbolizes the best of the best at the collegiate and high school levels.
For the second consecutive year, college and high school players flashing serious leather in 2008 will be awarded Rawlings Gold Glove Awards as Rawlings celebrates its 51st year of the Rawlings Gold Glove AwardŽ.
In partnership with the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), Rawlings presented the first-ever Rawlings Gold Glove Awards last year to players in NCAA Divisions I, II, and III; NAIA; NJCAA Divisions I, II, and III; and High School.

HOLLER, JOHNSON, AND DENMAN
RECEIVE REGION 10 HONORS
Jamie Holler and Jeff Johnson were recently named to the All-Region second team while Alan Denman was named Region 10 Defensive Player of the Year.
Holler received the honor as an infielder after leading the conference in batting average hitting at a .439 clip to end the regular season. Johnson hit .366 with 3 home runs and 35 runs driven in and was named as an outfielder. Johnson celebrated his selection to the All-Region team by blasting his 4th home run of the year and knocking in 5 runs in the first game of the Region 10 tournament, an 8-0 win over Florence-Darlington. Holler also contributed in that win throwing 7 innings of shutout baseball to pick up the victory. Denman was selected as the Region's best defender after recording a .994 fielding percentage in 51 games played at first base for the Fire Ants.
Congratulations are in order for these 3 young men that will be back in a USC Sumter uniform in 2009!
