USC Sumter recognizes and permits the wearing of gold cords by students earning honors, high honors, and highest honors at USC Sumter at the USC Sumter commencement.

USC Sumter also recognizes and permits whatever cords or medallions are approved by those institutions and campuses with whom USC Sumter has special arrangements for Bachelor's or Master's Degrees with the stipulation that only academic honor organizations can be recognized at commencement. USC Sumter reserves the right to review this policy on a case by case basis should an academic honor society that is recognized by an institution or campus with whom USC Sumter has special arrangements for Bachelor's or Master's Degrees practice exclusionary membership based on racial, religious, gender, income, and other kinds of unwarranted discrimination.

Students are expected to purchase their cords with the rest of their academic regalia, usually from the bookstore of the campus or institution awarding the degree.
